UPDATE - BOYS SECTIONAL WEEK

Posted by Dawn O'Sullivan at Feb 4, 2019 12:12PM PST

PARENTS OF FCHSSND MALE ATHLETES,
Championship Season is right around the corner so I wanted to give you all a heads up as to what to expect. I have sent this email to “ALL Parents” because I do not want to miss anyone. All male athletes are included in the events listed below.
Important Dates:

Saturday, February 9th
Decorate locker room at 9:00 a.m. as pool doors will be open at this time. (theme: Blue, White, Franklin, Grizzly Cubs) All locker room decorations must be taken down on February 14th by 3:00pm!

Saturday, February 9th
Sectional posters will be hung in the glass hallway between pool and front office.
Poster instructions: All swimmers/divers will have an individual poster made by their parent. The poster should be 14×22 in size. This is about 1/2 of a poster board. Please use this size poster. The custodial staff gets upset with us when the larger posters (due to their weight) fall during the night and cause the security system to trigger. The smaller poster is much easier to manage with 25 teammates. Feel free to take advantage of the FCHSSND Shutterfly website. Jodi (and Toby) have done a fantastic job capturing great photos of all the athletes. Also, include stickers, favorite quotes, inspirational sayings, etc. to decorate your child’s poster. Please let me or an upper class men parent know if you would like to see a sample poster. Don’t stress over this. Have fun with it! Your child will love it!
Please have posters at the pool by 10:00am. You may hang yours in the glass hallway or place it on the “Lockbox” table in the storage room (at your own risk) and someone will hang it for you.

Monday, February 11th
Boys will see posters and decorations in the locker room.
Boys are invited to sectional team dinner at the Pheifer residence located at 6739 W. County Road 144, Greenwood directly after practice. There will be a sign in the yard to indicate the correct driveway. This is a very exciting night outside the pool. It gives the athletes a chance to relax, eat, and spend time together as a team. All boy swimmers, divers, and coaches will attend. Please don’t let not having a ride keep you from attending this dinner. If you need a ride to and from the school, please let Ethan Pheifer know so that arrangements can be made.

Tuesday, February 12th Boys will receive their sectional t-shirts after practice.

Wednesday, February 13th
Boys will stop by the storage room following practice and enjoy the traditional sectional fruit cup.

Thursday, February 14th
Boys will come to the storage room during their individual lunch period and enjoy a traditional sectional lunch as a team. Once the last lunch period is finished, decorations will be taken down in the boys locker room in anticipation of the sectional meet that night.
Girls team will time at prelims.
All locker room decorations much be taken down by 3:00pm! Sectionals poster can remain.
No Subway is served. Athletes are responsible for eating on their own.

SECTIONAL PRELIMS START @5:30PM.
Friday, February 15th
Boys will wear sectional t-shirts to school.
Practice as normal per Coach DeWitt.

Saturday, February 16th
Doors will open at 8:15 a.m. Boys diving begins @9:00 a.m.
Swimming sectional finals begins @1:00pm
Girl parents are responsible for volunteering to time and work concessions per Volunteer Spot.

February 2nd, 2018

FRANKLIN – After a breakout season in the2018 campaign, the three-time Sectional Champion Grizzly Cub ladies defended their trophy with great success, winning all 11 swimming events en route to a 513-349 victory over 2nd place Center Grove. Franklin’s title marks the fourth sectional title in as many years, the 7th title in school history.

There was a large group of swimmers contributing to the success of another hallmark day, beginning with a 200 Medley Relay crew of Scarlet Friend (12), Kabria Chapman (10), Ali Terrell (12), and Ava Ray (9) dominate the field with a blistering time of 1:46.34. From that event on, the Lady Grizzly Cubs would out-pace the field, winning all races on the afternoon.

Carla Gildersleeve (12), Sarah Hoffman (11), and Gracey Payne (10) were all double-winners on the day. All three had bigger goals in mind, with the 2019 IHSAA State Championships next weekend, but managed to win their respective events handedly. Gildersleeve, a Senior, won the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly, while the junior, Sarah Hoffman took the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. Gracey Payne, an underclassmen, defended her 100 Freestyle title from a year ago, while also picking up a win in the 50 Freestyle.

Sophomore Kabria Chapman, electing to swim without a “racing suit,” cruised to the 100 Breaststroke title, despite a tough group of competitors. Scarlet Friend, a Senior, won the most competitive event of the day, 100 Backstroke, nearly breaking a pool record in the process.

The day wasn’t just highlighted by the few winning swims as Franklin had already placed all their athletes within the top-8 “A Final” heat. There were four of the eight individual events, where Franklin also took second. Freshman Alea Hensley was the first a slew of runner-up finishes , as she swam to a 3-second drop in the 200 Free. Ali Terrell would grab a pair of silver finishes, herself, finishing 2nd in the 200 IM, 100 Butterfly. Scarlet Friend, finished 2nd , with a time quick enough to get her invited to the State meete. Lastly, Lucy Ho, grabbed a 2nd place finish in the 100 Freestyle.

Franklin looks to take that poise and focus to the 2019 IHSAA State Championships beginning this Friday at 6pm at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. The Grizzly Cubs boast the 2nd most swims in the state (17) behind Carmel High School (27).

The state qualifying swims are as follows:
• 200 Medley Relay
• 200 Free Relay
• 400 Free Relay
• 200 Freestyle: Sarah Hoffman
• 200 Individual Medley: Carla Gildersleeve
• 50 Freestyle: Scarlet Friend, Gracey Payne
• 100 Butterfly: Carla Gildersleeve
• 100 Freestyle: Gracey Payne
• 500 Freestyle: Sarah Hoffman
• 100 Backstroke: Scarlet Friend
• 100 Breaststroke: Kabria Chapman
