INDIANAPOLIS – As most coaches and athletes can attest, success at the highest level isn’t easy or convenient. Success is an elusive desire that doesn’t award itself to everyone, but can be had by anyone willing to put in the time.

For many years, Franklin Community Swimming & Diving has been on conquest to claim their place amongst Indiana’s elite programs. The dream came true on Saturday when a 400 Freestyle Relay team of Jacob Destrampe, Cade Oliver, Brock Lock, and Max Kramer finished 2nd to cap off the biggest day in Franklin’s swimming and diving history.

In September, it was a pipe dream, something to become excited about. Whether the pipe dream was realistic or not, wasn’t known until mid-December, when a dream became a goal. On Saturday, the goal became reality.

Led by junior Jacob Destrampe, who started his day by winning the first individual state swimming championship in school history (200 Freestyle), Franklin scored 203 points to edge out Zionsville (186 pts) for the 2018 IHSAA State Championships runner-up trophy.

Franklin put all three relays on the podium, two of which were state-runner up to the eventual state champion, Carmel. The 200 Freestyle Relay quartet of Jacob Destrampe, Michael Couet, Brock Lock, and Max Kramer were edged-out by the Carmel Greyhounds, after the Franklin foursome logged the second fastest 200 Freestyle Relay time in the state’s illustrious history. Destrampe, Lock, and Kramer were later joined by freshman Cade Oliver in their runner-up finish in the 400 Freestyle relay, knocking over five seconds off the FCHS school record.

The Franklin boys scored points in nearly every event to outpace the field for runner-up, with huge swims coming from a pair of seniors and a freshman. The seniors Michael Couet and Brock Lock made massive drops, with the pair winning medals in the 100 Breaststroke and 100 Freestyle respectively. Couet’s time of 54.9 was good enough for 2nd place, just .15 behind the state champ, while Lock’s 100 Freestyle time placed 6th in the state. The seniors will be joined in the Franklin Wall of Fame by Gauge Creech and freshman Cade Oliver, both of which had career days in their respective events. Gauge finished 8th in the 1m Diving, while Oliver scored two medals in his state debut.

On the season, Franklin broke 12 of the school’s 13 swimming & diving records, while also winning the runner-up trophy for the first time (previous best was 2017’s 10th place). Franklin’s senior class was instrumental in changing the culture and helping take success to the state level.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Posted by Dawn O'Sullivan at Feb 21, 2018 12:39PM PST

FCHSSnD Parents,

Much hesitancy has been expressed regarding the date of our banquet and Moyra’s Celebration of Life occurring on the same day. Please note that Moyra’s Celebration of Life is first and foremost in all of our thoughts and prayers. However, the hope is that we can be present as one at the ceremony to extend love and support together as the swim team family to Aiden and his family during this difficult time. Upon completion of the same, resume the banquet event.

With this being said, we will meet in the cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. to walk to the auditorium together. Please consider joining with us in solidarity during the ceremony. Once completed, then resume the banquet event.
